Just whatever pops into my head.

So I’m adding a new section to Rkiver.com. This section is for my wife to use for uploading the stories she’s written, and using joomla will mean what she puts up will be copyrighted, which is always handy.

Right now only the basic page is up, but Aoife and I will be working on it to customise it and get it looking more like Aoife’s page then mine.

rkiver.com/Aoife is where it will all be happening.

So a little bit of a rant here. I make it a point to remember people’s birthdays. If they say “We’re going out for drinks in X, come along”, I come along, and I try and bring a small gift. In these money strapped times, a small thought is the best I can do, and usually it’s very much appreciated.

However, when it comes to my birthday. Nada. No one can make it, ever. My next birthday is my 30th (yes I am that old) and that’s supposedly a big deal. So I go and decide “Right, lets do something everyone can enjoy and doesn’t cost the earth. A trip to the zoo!”.
Less then 6 people said they could try and make it, the rest, no response. So I’ve cancelled it.

And every other birthday too, that means everyone elses. Could not be bothered anymore. If people cannot even show a bit of common courtesy and remember someones birthday, or at least respond to an invite, then why should I bother? I look at it that I can also save on average 200 Euro or more a year by doing this. Which is always nice.

A bit of a childish response? Yeah I guess it is. But after nearly a decade of no one giving even a “happy birthday”, why bother?

So what’s going on in our life?

Well facing redudancy, but that’s not a bad thing as due to how strange Ireland is at the moment I will be better off. Now a lot of people are saying I’ll be better off working, but since when is losing money and going nuts a good thing?

So what will I do with this spare time? Well I have old computer parts that I can use to build a proxmox box and teach myself more about virtual machines, unix etc. I have a plan that I will follow and teach myself.

So we finally got ourselves a pair of kittens from the DSPCA. Two sisters who due to the way they acted on their first night have gotten themselves the names Lady and Minx.

Right now they are crashed out, Lady up at the window near the kitchen, and Minx down near the door to the balcony.

They’ve both settled in really well, using the litter tray and not spraying and taking dumps anywhere else. I’ll be uploading a few photos soon, but suffice to say like all kittens, cute as anything.

So just got home from The Gathering.

Was awesome on so many levels, my character died, made a new one, laughs were had, cries were had.

Will write more up at some point.

So it’s that time of year again, the Gathering beckons. Time to dress up and run around hitting people with foam latex weapons and pretending to throw fireballs and the like. I may be turning 30 next year, but I remember how to play and have fun.

Spent the past hour or so going through our actual kit for these events. Have all our camping gear in one bag (a big one, but one none the less) and all our character kit in another. And it turns out we have enough stuff we aren’t bringing to have a spare bag of kit also. Truely we have become serious larper.

Just booked Toby’s as well for the trip back, so all we now need is to get there!

Well as I said, I was going to be in an episode of Hak5, and I am. Darren and I did a little round table chat regarding Android, rooting the HTC Desire, and running Android apps on your computer. Have to say I am stoked at seeing it, and I’d like to thank Darren for giving me the chance to come on and do a segment, and hopefully if he liked it I will get to to do more in the future, as I’ve got the bug. I want to do more.

So I’m going to be recording a segment for Hak5 about rooting the HTC Desire I’ve already for almost it entirely worked out.

So today I heard back from my oncologist. I don’t have colon cancer!

Yes, flight sims. Rather geeky/nerdy for a lot of people, but I happen to love them. From the free one Orbiter, to the rediculously expensive X-Plane, with controllers ranging from a simple joystick to full on Saitek equipment with control panels, rudder pedals and all the rest of it.

Why do I love flight sims? Controlling a plane, helicopter, spaceship/whatever I just enjoy, and some of the more advanced ones, if you don’t get it right, game over. Flight Sims can be very arcade, or very very realisic (ie bloody hard).

So I’ll get a shot up at some stage of my setup, it’s not the most spectacular one, but it’s rather good.
